Meet Dr. Cavanagh
One of the most rewarding aspects of being an orthodontist is having the opportunity to help build our patients’ self-esteem and boost their confidence by improving their smiles. At a young age, my own orthodontic treatment helped me to overcome my shyness. This experience set me on a career path where I could help others regain their self-confidence.
I have been practicing orthodontics since 1997 and opened my first office in Colts Neck in 1999. In 2016, I started the office in Shrewsbury and the rest is history!
I grew up in Shrewsbury, attended Shrewsbury Boro School, and graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School. I attended Villanova University where I earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. From there I went to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey where I received my Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree. I subsequently did my three-year Specialty Residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and also graduated from the School of Biomedical Sciences with a Masters of Science degree in Oral Biology.
I have served as a board member of the New Jersey Association of Orthodontics and regularly attend their Continuing Dental Education series. I also regularly attend the American Association of Orthodontists conferences. By attending regular continuing education courses and being a part of orthodontic study clubs I am able to stay informed about the latest research and innovative treatments in orthodontics. It helps me to better treat my patients in an efficient manner and achieve treatment results that my patients and I can be proud of.
My husband Joe and I have two wonderful children who are now young adults, our daughter Cassandra and son Owen. Most of our free time is spent caring for our honey bees. We have a small backyard apiary and love harvesting honey and beeswax. I also love to read great fiction novels, watch movies, and go on hikes and bicycle rides.
