Meet Dr. Cavanagh

Dr. Ileana Cavanagh finds one of the most rewarding aspects of being an orthodontist in Shrewsbury and Red Bank is helping patients build self-esteem and confidence through beautiful, healthy smiles. Her own orthodontic journey helped her overcome shyness at a young age, inspiring her to pursue a career where she could help others achieve confidence through their smiles.

Dr. Cavanagh has been practicing orthodontics since 1997. She opened her first office in Colts Neck in 1999 and expanded to Shrewsbury in 2016, serving patients from Shrewsbury, Red Bank, and beyond ever since.

A lifelong resident of Monmouth County, Dr. Cavanagh grew up in Shrewsbury, attended Shrewsbury Boro School, and graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Villanova University, followed by her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Cavanagh then completed a three-year Specialty Residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, along with a Master’s degree in Oral Biology from the School of Biomedical Sciences.

As a board member of the New Jersey Association of Orthodontics and an active participant in the American Association of Orthodontists, Dr. Cavanagh stays current on the latest research and innovations in orthodontic care. Through continuing education courses and study clubs, she enhances her ability to serve her patients in Shrewsbury and Red Bank with the most efficient, advanced treatments.

Outside the office, Dr. Cavanagh and her husband Joe enjoy life in Monmouth County with their two young-adult children, Cassandra and Owen. In their free time, they care for their backyard honey bee apiary, harvesting honey and beeswax. Dr. Cavanagh also enjoys reading fiction, watching movies, hiking, and bike riding.
